Golf Packing Checklist for Kids
By Jacob Williams · October 19, 2024
Ensure your child has everything they need for a fun and successful golf game with this comprehensive checklist.
1. Golf Equipment
- Clubs: Make sure they have a full set, including a driver, woods, irons, wedges, and a putter. It’s always helpful to have their favorite club for tee shots.
- Golf Balls: Pack at least 6-8 golf balls. Newer players might want to pack a few extra just in case.
- Tees: Bring a small bunch of tees in their golf bag.
- Ball Marker: Have a coin or a special ball marker for marking the ball’s position when putting.
- Golf Glove: Pack one or two gloves, especially if they tend to sweat or if it might rain.
- Divot Tool: This tool helps fix the dents made in the grass on the green.
2. Personal Items
- Golf Attire: Comfortable, golf-appropriate clothing like a collared shirt and golf shorts or pants. Don’t forget to pack socks!
- Golf Shoes: Ensure their shoes are clean and have good grip. Some courses require soft spikes.
- Hat or Visor: To keep the sun out of their eyes.
- Sunscreen: Apply before leaving and pack extra to reapply during the game.
- Water Bottle: Keep a water bottle in their bag to stay hydrated throughout the round.
- Snacks: Bring healthy snacks like granola bars, fruit, or nuts to maintain energy.
- Towel: A small towel for wiping off clubs or hands.
3. Scorecard and Pencil
- Scorecard: Make sure they have a scorecard and understand how to keep track of their score.
- Pencil: Pack an extra pencil in case one breaks.
4. Rules and Etiquette
- Review Basic Golf Rules: Remind them about playing in turn, avoiding slow play, and handling hazards or out-of-bounds.
- Sportsmanship: Encourage them to support their teammates and show respect to their opponents.
- Safety Tips: Stay alert on the course, watching out for other players’ shots, and never hit the ball until the group ahead is safely out of range.
Bonus Items
- Rangefinder: Helps measure distances on the course.
- Rain Gear: If there’s rain in the forecast, pack a light rain jacket and rain gloves.
- Extra Layer: Bring a lightweight jacket or sweater in case it gets cold or windy.
- Bug Spray: If the course has mosquitoes, pack some bug spray.
- Energy Drink/Extra Fluids: Especially on hot days, pack an electrolyte drink to stay energized.
- Extra Ball Marker/Marker Pen: Always good to have a backup.
- Rulebook/Quick Reference Card: A handy rules reference card can help in tricky situations.
- Lucky Charm or Token: Something meaningful that boosts confidence or brings luck.
- Portable Phone Charger: If they are allowed to bring their phone, a portable charger can be useful for emergencies.
Warm-up Routine and Practice
Part 1: Stretching and Loosening Up (10 minutes)
- Get Moving: Start with simple stretches to loosen up.
- Arm Circles & Shoulder Rolls: Loosen shoulders by rolling arms forward and backward for 20 seconds.
- Torso Twists: Stand up straight and twist from side to side to warm up the core.
- Leg Swings: Swing legs forward, back, and side to side for strong hips.
- Leg Stretches: Stretch hamstrings and quads for flexibility.
Part 2: Short Game Practice (15 minutes)
- Chipping and Putting: Spend 5 minutes putting to get the feel of the greens, then chip for 10 minutes from different areas around the green.
Part 3: Full Swing Warm-up (15 minutes)
- Build it up: Start with easy half-swings using a wedge or short iron, focusing on rhythm and balance.
- Tiger’s Power Phase: Gradually move to longer clubs, swinging faster as you warm up.
